The obligatory About

WordPress assures me that “visitors will want to know who is on the other side of the page.” This seems unlikely but who am I to argue? I started this blog on a bit of a whim. I was feeling pretty awful about some stuff, just generally, and I experience depression from time to time, and all in all giving myself some space to concentrate my mind on stuff I love seemed a useful thing. I’ve always loved traipsing around in woods and in later years have become mildly obsessed with trying to figure out what everything is and how it all works. I use this space to just dump all the related thoughts, discoveries and writing exercises into.

When I’m not wandering about under trees my other hobbies include trying to figure out how medieval people did medieval things with the Society for Creative Anachronism. As I’ve been learning more there I find there’s a bigger and bigger overlap in my interests – foraging for raw materials, medieval forestry research, that kind of thing – so from time to time I link back and forward between the two blogs. http://pontagedue.wordpress.com is where you’ll find that one, if the notion takes you.

I do occasional bits of research-ey things to contribute a little to Gentle Decline, a newsletter that discusses things people can do to get ready for the effects of climate crisis. Drew, the writer, is also a marketer of fortune and offers a reduced rate for an organisation that’s minority-owned or minority-run, a charity or an environmentally-involved company, which may be useful to people who have small marketing projects and an interest in things environmental.
